David Pearson is in his third year as an assistant baseball coach at North Dakota State. He assists in all phases of the program and serves as the team’s hitting coach and recruiting coordinator.

Pearson, 33, was hired in August 2007 after a one-year stint as bullpen coach for the Kitsap BlueJackets of the West Coast Collegiate League. He was an assistant baseball coach at Mayville State in 2005 and 2007.

At NDSU, Pearson has helped recruit two All-Summit League performers and last year helped the Bison elevate their batting average more than 40 points.

He is credited with starting two American Legion baseball programs in his home state of North Dakota, including one year as head coach at Hankinson and two years as the head coach at Griggs County. He was an assistant coach at May-Port-CG High School and the University of North Dakota for one season each.

Pearson was a two-time all-conference infielder in junior college at Minot State-Bottineau and went on to play two seasons at Mayville State. He was a member of two Region 3 championship teams and played in the 2002 NAIA World Series.

Pearson graduated from Mayville State in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in business education. He and his wife, Keleigh, reside in Fargo.

Jake Angier
Assistant Coach

Jake Angier is in his first season as an assistant baseball coach at North Dakota State.  He serves a full-time role as the Bison pitching coach.

Angier, 25, spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant at South Dakota State, where he played for the Jackrabbits in 2006 and 2007 before moving into the coaching ranks as a student assistant.

Angier helped develop two major league draft picks at SDSU - Caleb Thielbar in the 18th round in 2009, and Blake Treinen in the 23rd round in 2010. He also coached All-America reliever Trever Vermeulen.

A native of Bellevue, Wash., Angier began his collegiate playing career at Big Bend Community College, where he saved six games as a sophomore. At SDSU, he had a 2-1 record in 34 appearances over two seasons.

Angier graduated from South Dakota State in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in sociology. He earned a master's degree in sports pedagogy from South Dakota State in May.

Kole Zimmerman
Assistant Coach

Former North Dakota State baseball and football player Kole Zimmerman is in his first year as an assistant baseball coach at NDSU.

Zimmerman was a catcher, outfielder and first baseman for the Bison from 2004 to 2008. He hit .277 with 14 home runs and 117 RBIs in his career and won a North Central Conference championship in 2004.

On the football field, Zimmerman was a four-year letterman at linebacker. He played as a true freshman in 2002 and saw action in five games before a knee injury ended his year and kept him out of the 2003 baseball season.

Zimmerman charted 170 tackles and seven sacks in 35 career games for the Bison. He had one interception return for a touchdown his senior year before missing the final game with another knee injury that sidelined him for the 2006 baseball season.

Zimmerman, 26, has played minor league baseball with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the independent Northern League the past two seasons.

A native of Windom, Minn., Zimmerman was a two-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American® and NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship winner. He completed a bachelor’s degree in history at NDSU in 2006 and is working toward a doctorate in history.
